‘THAT TAKES THE BISCUIT’

Working Party 28 February 2019

The team: Maggie Atherton, Clive Bostle, Glyn Hayter, Alan Saunders, Geoff Smith, Clive Stewart, Geoff Thould, Derek Williams

Fiona, from the Public Rights of Way Team, greeted us in Abbots Morton with news that their premises had been broken into the previous night. What was stolen? Strimmer? Brushcutter? Chainsaw? No - the perpetrator/s stole tea and biscuits! What a relief that Fiona had loaded up the van during the day and we were not going to have to work without our usual refreshments.

Firstly, our task was to clear footpaths that had become difficult to walk due to low branches, overgrown shrubs and hedgerows. Secondly, we were to replace old waymarks around the village. Glyn volunteered for the waymarking and disappeared with Fiona in search of a hammer in the van. The rest of the group, armed with handsaws and loppers, soon got stuck into the task at hand and worked methodically down through a small copse. A lot of the trees were in a poor state with several leaning precariously over the path. Some we sawed down, others we were able to just push down.

Just as we were completing the clearance, Glyn rejoined us and we all managed to return to our cars before the rain, which had threatened all morning, started to fall in earnest.
