Arnside Escapade

Cumbria – June 2026

In June 2026 members of Evesham Rambling Club travelled to Arnside in Cumbria for a six-day walking holiday. Organised and led by Alan and Pauline, ably assisted by Pauline’s sister, Marion, members were treated to a series of walks taking in the beauty of Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape. The area, which sits just south of the Lake District, is a haven for birds, rare butterflies and alpine plants, and is renowned for its spectacular limestone pavements, ancient woodlands, meadows and coastal scenery.

The fantastic network of footpaths provided a variety of routes to suit all abilities. Walks took in cliff tops along the coastline, Arnside Knott – a perfect scenic wooded walk with excellent views across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland Fells, the ‘Pepper Pot’ at nearby Silverdale, Whin Scar in search of the Fairy Steps (an old corpse route) and the train took the strain to Grange-over-Sands for a walk up Hamps Fell with its stunning views.

The club took over Parkside Guest House for the duration of our stay and, for those with enough energy after the days exertions, there were charades, a quiz and the opportunity to watch England in the World Cup. Some of the members preferred to visit a local hostelry under the pretext that they wanted to watch the amazing sunsets!  The accommodation and food were excellent with the latter including a choice of breakfasts, packed lunches and a three-course evening meal. All of which made the next day’s walking essential.
