October Sunday Ramble
October 27 from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm
Members may view additional information by clicking here.
- Leaders: Paul and Fran
- Area: Radford – including Rous Lench, Inkberrow and Abbots Morton
- Start: 10 am
- Distance: am 5.6 miles; pm 4.8 miles
- Terrain: The morning walk is across mostly agricultural land and is reasonably flat. The walk starts and ends with a 0.7 mile session on a reasonably busy road with no footpath. There is a 200m section of a steady (not steep) climb, but the views at the top are worth it. The land is mostly clay and there is a section through woodland, so if it has been raining before, it will be muddy and sticky. There are about six stiles of varying degree of difficulty and state of repair. The afternoon is similar terrain and again one short steep climb. There are more stiles (about 10), again of different difficulty and condition.
- Lunch: 12.45 pm
- Where: The Wheelbarrow Castle
- Description:
“In the morning we start from Radford and head out of the village towards Alcester. We then head across farmland towards Slade Wood and then to the village of Rous Lench. We then complete a circuit of the village before stopping for a short refreshment break in the churchyard – please bring a drink and a snack. Next is a steady climb out of the village, past a deer farm for some spectacular views north across Worcestershire. Next up is a steady downhill wander through Slade Wood and across more farmland to the Radford to Alcester road and back to the start point.
The afternoon takes us out of Radford across farmland towards Inkberrow. As we reach Inkberrow we skirt the boundary of the village and then our second short climb of the day before crossing more farm land and circling back towards Abbots Morton. In Abbots Morton we then turn for Radford and a leisurely walk across fields to our start point.”
