Schladming, Austria – September 2025
Members of Evesham Rambling Club have recently returned from a very successful walking holiday in the mountains of Austria. Based in the town of Schladming in the Styria region of the country a programme of walks provided members with the opportunity to hike in high alpine areas, encounter mountain lakes and waterfalls and visit the Dachstein Glacier at nearly 10,000 feet.

For many of the party this was their first experience of walking in the Alps. To accommodate different abilities, we offered a choice of routes. Our programme made full use of the excellent cable car and bus services, taking us up into the higher mountain regions for our walks. Some of our members took on the higher routes including up to the Lungauer Kalkspitze peak at 8,106 ft.

For everyone there was the opportunity to enjoy local hospitality in the mountain huts where we were made very welcome by our hosts and where we could sample culinary specialities such as the famous Austrian Topfenstrudel and Almdudler.
Over the eight-day stay the party of 17 managed over 85 miles of alpine walking with 9000 ft of ascent and 12000 ft of descent.
